Coming to Terms with Thirty

Good evening everyone and welcome to The Magical Mystery Blog.

You know, there’s something I’ve realized anymore.

What is the ideal dream? Growing up, it was get married by thirty, establish yourself by thirty, and move out by thirty. Notice the word that keeps repeating there; ‘thirty’. Thirty is the dreadful number of society that signifies the halfway point of our lives.  Movies and shows have programmed it into our minds that thirty is the end all be all number to have our lives sorted out. If we don’t, we are doomed to be failures.

Yet I find anymore that that dream is just a built up societal trope. In our early to late twenties, we are doing everything: finding a job, having fun, living life, finishing school, starting school, finding ourselves, finding our future spouse. We are only human beings that can do so much. When we realize that we only have so many years before we hit thirty, we begin to panic. Some of us have already found a career, some of us may have already found a partner, some of us might even be out on their own; but what about those who aren’t any of these things?

Truth is, not everyone is established or happily married or moved out by thirty. In fact, there are still some single persons, some people who still live with their parents, and even some who are still working themselves to death for a job where they hope they can get a promotion. And you know what?

That’s okay.

It’s okay that some of us are thirty and still haven’t found our Mr./Mrs. Right. It’s okay that we’re still living with our parents because the housing market is ridiculously high and apartments have outrageous rent. It’s okay that we’re still trying to craft a career. We have time and by no means should that phrase intimidate us. Rather, it should inspire us because we still have time to do everything we’ve always wanted and take our time with love and life. We still have so many seconds to hold hands, chug a beer, take that Chinese class, and have fun. Yes, we can catch ourselves when we procrastinate because we’re intelligent and can differentiate between procrastination and relaxing from working ourselves to death.
So screw you society into making me dread ‘Thirty’ after all these years. ‘Thirty’ is nothing to fear at all, but rather embraced in knowing that we still have time on this Earth to find love, to work towards a career, and to be ourselves.

Thank you for reading tonight’s entry.

If you enjoyed it, feel free to subscribe, share, comment, and critique.

So tell me, what are your thoughts on hitting thirty?

2015 New Years Resolutions

Good evening everyone and welcome to a new year at The Magical Mystery Blog.

Last night we celebrated the end of 2014 and welcomed 2015. 2015 is a new year to make a difference, a new year to succeed and be happier with our lives, a new year to live and work.  While I’m sure many of you made your resolutions last night, I was unable to do so (mostly due to the beer and dancing). So tonight, in the start of the new year, I will make my resolutions.

  • Living. I’ve always believed in living and carpe dieming, but I have only started acting upon this notion in 2014. As one of the highest beings on the food chain, humans are designed to survive. But life isn’t always a matter of surviving financially and with essential needs (food, clothing, shelter, and warmth.) It’s also a matter of living. We must embrace this one life we have to do as we please before our time runs short and we’re hopefully incarnated into something better if not equally as good.

  • Settling is for suckers. Never settle for anything. Settling will not only make you lower your standards for someone or something you disapprove of, but it will make you miserable and regret your actions.

  • Stay motivated. In my life I know I want to be a writer and obtain a full time job. My motivation comes from the fact that writing has been my dream job since I was a child and I fell in love with reading. The ideas that the words produced, how the imagination grew with every sentence, and how the writer spoke to me while I read their craft; those are the reasons why I chose to walk this road and why I will always travel it.

  • Be more confident. I will be confident with the things I want to do in life and know that they make me happy. I will be confident in the things I want to do, the events I want to experience, and allow them to show me more of myself, which will add to my confidence. I know I can be a confident individual and I understand that I can be that, but I always want to be confident, and let nothing strike me down.

If you have anything you’d like to see discussed or have feedback, feel free to contact me.

What are your resolutions?

Countdown to a New Year

Greetings everyone to a post Christmas version of The Magical Mystery Blog.

I hope all your Christmases were fantastic and that you received many gifts from Santa, Krampus, Cthulu, Sandy Claws, or someone you know and love. My Christmas was filled with food and presents, most of which were clothes, antiques, and a few games. But now a new year is just around the bend and with it comes hopes of a new life to be lived, new resolutions to follow through with, and changes to lifestyles, homes, and more. Below are my top three New Year’s resolutions.

3. Getting in the Field

This past year I graduated as a Communications major with a Writing minor from New Jersey’s distinctive college. Since then I have been doing casino marketing work and putting some of my degree to use. However, as much as I love my current job, I would like to get into writing, preferably for a newspaper. I've been taught to create excellent profile stories, press releases, and other forms of writing. I have the skills, it’s just a matter of finding a place that will give me a chance.

2. Live

If there’s one thing I believe in, it’s that we have one life to live. Given this one chance, we might as well use it to our full advantage, and live every day as though there’s no tomorrow.  Going through college I started to live the best I could – embracing the fun moments when they presented themselves, embarking on trips to places I've never been to before, and many other activities. I began to see the wonders of life, the elation of spontaneous moments, and the beauty of random adventures. With my college days over, I want to continue living, and experience everything life has to offer me. I've even created a bucket list to guide me on the life I want to live. So far, I've knocked a few things off the list and I don’t plan to stop.

1. Work

I’ll admit I’m a bit of a procrastinator which can be a cursing or a blessing for me. But what qualifies as ‘work’ for me might be considered as a hobby for others. My work entails crafting short stories, honing novels, and basically, writing. It’s my dream to become an author, not for the fame or money, but for the concepts of being remembered for fantastic writing, and bringing joy to people.

I grew up reading constantly, always hungry for more, and having a strong admiration for creating and writing.  My New Year’s resolution is to keep working and aiming to get a book out filled with a few short stories and some poems within the next year.

It's the Most Thankful Time of the Year

Greetings everyone and welcome to a freezing Thanksgiving week here at The Magical Mystery Blog.

During this time of the year, everyone is thankful for something. Whether it’s as large as a life changing event or as small as an ipod, everyone is grateful for something(s) on Thanksgiving. In some families, people go around the table, claiming what they are thankful for and why. As for me, I’m sharing what I’m grateful for this Thanksgiving because I’ll be too busy devouring turkey, biscuits, and other Thanksgiving delicacies.

GET IN MY BELLY!

Below are the top three things I’m most thankful for this Thanksgiving.

3) My Job

Being a casino worker has its ups and downs, but there's a good advantage to my job. Without my job, I would probably be stuck in the throes of poverty. It’s not my dream job but it’s something I have while I’m searching for something in my field. Plus, without this job I wouldn't have managed to complete two of the items on my bucket list: meet Dan Aykroyd and get a crystal skull.

2) Life

I am a person who loves a good challenge because I like to see how it affects me and what it can do for me. What better challenge is there, than the challenge of life? Life is an ultimate challenge of survival, struggle, adaptation, and discovery. It’s a game that can only be beaten if you live it to its full extent by surviving, struggling to find victory, adapting to yourself as you change with time, society, and your environment, and discovering who you are, what you’re supposed to do in life, and all the wonders the world has to offer.

1) The Small Things

I've always been told through movies and others that the best way to appreciate life is through the small things. The small things are the ladybug on the flower, the view of the sunlight touching the water, the last cookie in the jar, and tons of other things that make up the big picture of life. It’s the small things that make me smile, especially when the challenge of life is just too rough. Sometimes even the darkest moments can be eliminated with a nice walk on the beach or a little piece of candy. I never abandon the small things but rather embrace them, so that I can understand life better, and appreciate it just a little more.
