Welcome to the Tardis, Pearl Mackie

Good evening everyone and welcome to The Magical Mystery Blog.

Pearl Mackie is the Doctor’s new companion for the future of “Doctor Who”.

Pearl Mackie is a native Londoner who is an acting tutor for children and starred in “Doctors” (a British soap opera) and is currently in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time at the National Theatre.  She has also performed in “Svengali” (a British film) and a music video for the band, Years & Years. As an accomplished dancer and actress, Mackie is excited for what the Doctor has in store for her.

Described as a combination of maturity and immaturity, Mackie takes on the role of knowing barely anything about the Doctor. This is a drastic contrast when compared to the last companion, Clara Oswald, who knew everything about the Doctor given her role in his lives. Mackie also emerges as the first non-white companion in approximately eight years with the last colored companion being Martha Jones (Freema Ageyman).

As for Capaldi, he was more than happy to welcome Mackie to the set. In fact, he even requested that the next companion to be a woman because he didn’t “want a bloke, because [Capaldi was] frightened that they’ll give him all the action and [he]’ll be standing around spouting scientific gobbledygook”. The notion of an inquisitive, enthusiastic young lady alongside the Doctor is refreshing to Capaldi and believes the combination works.

So far we’ve only seen a brief clip of her and the Doctor being pursued by a Dalek. Her name in the show will be Bill and she will appear in the series starting next year, after the Christmas special.

So tell me, what do you think of the new companion?

Run You Clever Boy and Remember Me

Good evening everyone and welcome to The Magical Mystery Blog.

The new “Doctor Who” season starts on September 19th,2015 on BBC. It’s the day we have been waiting for, like children anticipating Christmas. It’s a day that begins a new season where we’re reunited with the Doctor, a wondrous time lord from Gallifrey who travels the stars. Alongside him, we’re introduced to new faces of the otherworldly and human kind, while recognizing old familiar persons like Missy the Mistress and Clara Oswald the Impossible Girl.

But how long will we have Clara with us this season?

It has been stated time and time again that Jenna Coleman would leave “Doctor Who”, but now that rumor is set in stone. Having filmed most of the season, but excluding the Christmas special, Jenna is leaving “Doctor Who” for good. Jenna is moving on with her life and leaving the whimsical world that is “Doctor Who” and taking on a role for a new BBC series, “Queen Victoria”.

Given the fact that Clara is leaving the show permanently, I can only wonder how this will affect the Doctor. In the trailer we see the Doctor actually hugging Clara and running to her just to greet her with a grin and an embrace. Keep in mind that Capaldi’s Doctor is and was far from the hugging type and only now has Clara probably changed that trait. The Doctor has broken a rule of his just to accompany Clara and to make himself more open as opposed to being cold and distant. Only now will Clara be taken from him – how? No one knows, but it will truly be devastating not only to the fans, but the Doctor as well.

So tell me, how do you think Clara Oswald is going to leave?

Are You Sherlocked?

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to The Magical Mystery Blog.

It was just announced this week that the Sherlock Christmas special will take place in London during the 1800s aka the Victorian era. It will have everyone from Sherlock clad in the time period’s garments and completing their modern day tasks in a time when advanced technology was not available.

My initial reaction to this was pure elation for the fact that we don’t have to wait three plus years for something pertaining to Sherlock.  What followed next was a question of how exactly the cast of Sherlock managed to be transported to the 1800s. Naturally, my inner fangirl led me to believe that Moffat and Gatniss were finally doing a Wholock episode, but was immediately shot down by the fact that Moffat said it would never work. Of course then I figured that everyone in this new Victorian!Sherlock era is an ancestor to their modern day personas which could very well work.
But like any other writer and fan, research is needed to obtain any answer.

Moffat and Gatniss claim that this ninety minute special will have nothing to do with the original Sherlock series. Rather, they are doing a tribute to when Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s work was initially written in this specific time period.

The writers also claim that this special will include something everyone doesn’t suspect about John and Sherlock. Many fans hope that this surprise will be John and Sherlock engaging in a homosexual relationship. So far there have been no hints as to what this shocker will be, but the writers have confirmed that they have brought their cast to tears with what they have in store.

There was also talk about season 4 of Sherlock.

While not much has been said, it has been rumored for a long time that Tom Hiddleston may join Sherlock in the series as one of the elder Holmes brothers.  In the new season, we’ll be seeing more of Sherlock’s family so naturally they would want someone as equally handsome as Sherlock to be his brother.

It’s also rumored that Irene Adler may return, but Janine and her friends are definitely returning. Apparently Sherlock likes Janine and knows he can rely on her for a social function should he ever need a date for one.  There’s also the inevitable truth that Mary will die sooner or later, just like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote, but she won’t be dying in season 4.  Moriarty is also set to make a comeback, but to do what no one knows.

While there are no certain story lines or release dates as of yet, Sherlock season 4 will follow the 2015 Christmas special. There will also be many more seasons to come for Sherlock, with Benedict Cumberbatch wanting to pursue this series into old age.
