Last Minute Christmas Gifts

Good evening everyone and welcome to The Magical Mystery Blog.

With Christmas just around the corner, there are last minute gifts to be bought, baking to be had, and lights to be lit. It’s a time of the year to get together with people and celebrate a holiday filled with cheer and wonder.

Speaking of last minute gifts, here’s some gifts anyone will like:

1.Body Lotion – winter is the season of dry skin, thus prompting everyone to use body lotion. Bath and Body Works usually has some great gifts for $10 and below.

2.Gift cards – especially the VISA ones. You can never go wrong with a gift card because it will always be used and they never expire.

3.A scarf and glove set – winter is cold and everyone could use the layers. Scarves and gloves not only keep you warm, but are fashionable as well. There are sets for men and women so everyone has the chance to be warm for the winter.

4.Movie tickets – the movies are expensive, with $11 a ticket per individual you can practically get a meal for that amount.  Plus there’s usually something good playing and chances are there’s a movie they’ll really want to see sooner or later. Tickets never expire either so they can use them when they like.

5.Speakers- because everyone nowadays has some sort of sound producing source whether it’s a mobile device or something stationary like a television. They don’t even have to be expensive speakers because there are good quality ones for $20 and below. There’s also some nice phone chargers for $20 and below because you can never have enough chargers whether they are for work, home, or even your car.

I wound up buying another gift that a majority of people would like: candy. I bought a simple Ghiradelli package for a couple I didn’t know all that well, but they were friendly at my workplace. It’s Christmas and well, why not? It was only $5 and they ate it up.

Thank you for reading tonight’s entry. If you enjoyed it, feel free to share, subscribe, comment, and critique.

So tell me, what’s your go to last minute Christmas gift?

Digimon's 15th Anniversary

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to The Magical Mystery Blog.

This year marks the 15th anniversary of Digimon. Digimon, a show that competed against Pokemon in the 90s, was about eight kids who were sucked into a digital world and given a Digimon to fight with. Along the way we saw the children grow, their Digimon digivolve, and some excellent battles. It’s been fifteen years since we watched the original program, collected the toys and cards, and played the video games. So naturally, we should expect some sort of anniversary special, right? Well, right we are.

Just announced last night, “Digimon Tri” will be a new addition to the “Digimon Adventure” series. It features the original, iconic kids we know and love as seventeen year olds with their digital pals. However, it won’t be just one special; instead, it will be spanned out into a six part theatrical release. So far we’ve seen a bit of character artwork, but now we have a full preview of what’s to come.

As a fan of the franchise, I’ll admit I only watched the original program and the one after it. When the third one was aired I attempted to keep up, but I was too distracted by life and video games. I still have the action figures of the first Digimon series stored away in the attic and Digimon World for the PS1. The last Digimon I raised on there with my neighbor was a Skullgreymon. We thought that particular Digimon was about as cool as a glacier and looked incredible. However, for whatever reason it kept dying on us. Since we didn’t want it to die, we would immediately reset the game every time just before it passed on.

I also have Digimon Rumble on the PS1, a game no one wanted to play with me because I always won with Renamon. Renamon is one of my favorite Digimon from the later series because of how fast she is, how her digivolutions revolve around Japanese culture, and how she is modeled after a fox – one of my favorite animals.

As you can tell, I’m pretty excited about this anniversary project. I can’t wait to see how the original cast has changed and the future of the Digiworld.

Thanks for reading today’s entry. If you enjoyed it, feel free to comment, share, and critique.

So tell me, what was your favorite Digimon and why?

Fifty Shades of Assault

Good evening everyone and welcome to The Magical Mystery Blog.

As most of you believe, “Fifty Shades of Grey” promotes abuse and violence. After reading the book, I completely agree, especially when there are crimes inspired by the filthy franchise.

On February 21st, 2015, Mohammad Hossain decided to re-enact “Fifty Shades of Grey” in his dorm at UIC. He invited someone who he was intimately familiar with to his dorm where he asked her to strip, tied her to his bed, and even blindfolded her using a knit cap. Afterwards, he proceeded to whip his partner with his belt, punch her, and sexually assault her despite her protests. Hossain claimed that he was re-enacting “Fifty Shades of Grey” and also admitted to doing something wrong.

However, this isn’t the first crime triggered by “Fifty Shades of Grey.”

In 2013, Steven Lock and a woman went to court because of how far he took their BDSM session. The two met through an online dating site and wanted to perform a “slave and master” session sparked by “Fifty Shades of Grey.” They agreed to a safety word (red), lashing, and what they were going to do to each other. They even went as far as creating a sexual contract consenting Lock to enforce pain upon her. But no sooner the woman received severe markings on her buttocks and heard the whistling of the rope, she began to regret everything. She started screaming in pain and refused to get into bed with Lock, causing him to angrily give her the key to her restraints and telling her to get out.

Both parties of these acts knew what they were getting to, having seen the movie or read the book(s). However, the books and movies are works of fiction that do not properly illustrate relationships or BDSM culture.  Yet this didn’t stop either party because they pursued with their actions, thus proving that life imitates art.

However, both cases have their differences. Hossain’s partner repeatedly yelled at him to stop, but he kept going. There was no consent of beating or sexual activity other than tying up and stripping down. Lock and his partner did have consent; they wrote it in a sexual contract and she agreed to what would occur. The woman did not know what this man was like and immediately regretted her decision when she felt how hard he was whipping her. Lock could have stopped the BDSM session, but chose to fulfill the contract (and possibly his own sexual need), and continued. He even claimed that he felt bad for hurting her; why did he not stop if he knew he was hurting her? Was he enticed by her screams and the contract they both agreed to?

While I’m sure there are many other crimes and corruptions caused by “Fifty Shades of Grey,” these two stuck out to me the most. There are two demographics here that are affected by this franchise: young people who are becoming more sexual and experimental and older people who have enough experience to determine what’s right or wrong for them. Their judgments do not excuse nor justify what they have done. Rather, it just shows that a horrific franchise promoting abuse and violence can have such dominance over judgment, experience, and sexual activity.

Thanks for reading today’s entry. If you enjoyed it feel free to comment, reblog, and offer feedback.

So tell me, how do you think “Fifty Shades of Grey” is affecting our society?

The Merc With a Mouth Movie

Good evening and welcome to The Magical Mystery Blog.

Once again, I apologize for the unexpected and long hiatus. Work’s long hours have been killing me like Deadpool murders his enemies. Speaking of the Merc with the Mouth, today we receive a little treat from this year’s San Diego Comic Con. San Diego Comic Con is the Mecca of comics, anime, video games, geekery, literature, and cosplays. It’s located in the expensive majesty that is San Diego, California and is every geek’s version of Heaven.

The treat presented to us today was leaked film footage of The Merc with a Mouth Deadpool movie.  Deadpool is a Marvel superhero who has the regenerative ability, just like Wolverine. He is well versed with tons of weapons, is madly in love with Death, and has a tragic backstory. For years, fans have wanted a Deadpool movie since his role in X-men Origins: Wolverine.  Seeing Ryan Reynolds as the famous hero won fans’ hearts over, while crushing others. Following this part, Ryan voiced Deadpool in the Deadpool video game which turned out to be a blessing and a curse. It was a blessing for the plot, characters, and missions, but a curse due to its gameplay.

Now fans of Deadpool are eager to see how the famous superhero will slaughter across the screen while being unbelievably ridiculous.

What are you excited to see in the Deadpool movie?

May the 4th Be With You

Goods evening everyone and welcome to The Magical Mystery Blog.

Sunday is a day that might seem like your average day. You rise to a new day and do what you have to do. However, this Sunday is a special day. This Sunday is May the 4th, which may seem like a typical  date, but to “Star Wars” fans it is far from ordinary. You could say it’s out of this world.

gifatron.com

This blog is a trap for puns. Just like the Sarlacc.

May the 4th is a play on words of the famous “Star Wars” quote, ”May the force be with you.” The force is a binding, metaphysical power within the "Star Wars" galaxy. It is a power used by iconic characters from the franchise such as Yoda, Darth Vader, Luke, and pretty much anyone who uses a lightsaber. The force can be used for good or evil.

“Star Wars” fans celebrate this particular day by quoting the movie, possibly throwing a “Star Wars” themed party, engaging in “Star Wars” activities (lightsaber battles, anyone?), and many other fun festivities. This year’s May the 4th will be more special than ever because we have received a large chunk of news as big as the Death Star.

On April 29th, the cast was confirmed for “Star Wars: Episode VII".Within this confirmed cast, are some of the original “Star Wars” celebrities. Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Kenny Baker (R2D2), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), and Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) have all agreed to return for the latest Star Wars installation. Once again, we will see the iconic six characters take to the screen as their respective parts, and revive the spirit of “Star Wars”.

Joining alongside them will be Adam Driver (Hannah’s boyfriend from “Girls”),  Andy Serkis (Gollum from “Lord of the Rings”), Daisy Ridley (“Casualty”, “Mr.Selfridge”, and “Silent Witness”), Domhnall Gleeson (Bill Weasley from the “Harry Potter” franchise), John Boyega (Chris Tanner “24: Live Another Day), Max von Sydow (“Minority Report”, “Shutter Island”, and “The Tudors”), and Oscar Isaac (“The Bourne Legacy” and “Robin Hood”).

So far, the cast sounds great for the upcoming “Star Wars” movie. Let’s hope the “Star Wars” future is as bright as Alderaan’s explosion and as wonderful as George Lucas.

Feel free to comment and reblog and as always, feedback and followers are welcomed. Tonight I leave you with a simple question:

What are your thoughts on “Star Wars: Episode VII”?

Hollywood's Unnecessary Sequels

Good evening everyone and welcome to The Magical Mystery Blog.

The movie industry has been buzzing with news, such as continuing to enforce sequels to movies that don’t need sequels. Like many other unnecessary sequels in the works (such as the possible Ghostbusters 3), Hollywood is now brainstorming sequels to some 90s and 80s classics.

For example:

Ms. Doubtfire
Ah yes, who can forget the 90s classic of Robin Williams posing as an elderly feminine nanny so he could see his family? It’s a movie that we all love and remember and constantly see on television. Not too long ago, it was announced that Robin Williams and Chris Columbus (the original director of Mrs.Doubtfire) were joining together to create  Mrs.Doubtfire 2. However, Mara Wilson (Natalie Hillard in the first movie), claimed she will not be returning to the classic flick. This movie had the perfect ending: Robin Williams’ character was able to see his family again, while making a celebrity of his older woman alter ego.
Beetlejuice
This has been anticipated for years, but was initially turned down when Burton started to work on his Batman movies. Originally, Burton wanted to do Beetlejuice 2 with the title of Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. He wanted to feature the ghost with the most in this particular light as a tribute to old black and white movie monsters that invaded a Hawaiian beach or some tropical locale. Years passed and the idea was abandoned, only now to be raised from the dead, and discussed through Tim Burton, Winona Ryder, and Michael Keaton.
Goonies 2
Here’s another childhood film that was won its way into many hearts. Other than this confirmed sequel, there have been rumors of a completed script since 2010. The director, Richard Donner, hopes that all of the cast will be able to reunite for this thirty years later sequel.
Feel free to comment and reblog and as always, feedback and followers are welcomed.

What unnecessary sequel would you like to see?

Once Upon a Revisited Dream

Good evening everyone and welcome to The Magical Mystery Blog.

Last night, people watched the Grammy Awards Show to witness the awkwardness of Taylor Swift, the reuniting of Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney, and the many marriages of happy homosexuals. However, while this night of Hollywood merriment commenced, CBS revealed another trailer to the long awaited Maleficent movie premiering in theaters on May 30th, 2014. As the teaser revealed the villain, the main score of the original Sleeping Beauty movie played.

Rather, it is a remake much like other classic Disney songs. But this redoing of Once Upon a Dream is completely and utterly brilliant. This version of the song is a nod to what we heard as children and possibly played the death out of. While it still keeps the whimsicalness that we remember, there is a darker tone added to the tune. This eeriness is included to remind everyone of the story of the villainess that is to be told. Yet this shadowy feel also evolves the classic tune into a more mature melody that resonates with Disney’s target audience for Maleficent.

Maleficent is a Disney movie and Disney movies are often directed towards children. Maleficent is not only targeted at kids, but at adult who grew up watching the original film. When they listen to this tune, not only do they reflect on themselves as children watching Sleeping Beauty, but how the story of a sleeping damsel has evolved with the times.

When Sleeping Beauty was made, everything was set to a simplistic plot for children to understand: Aurora good. Maleficent bad.  It was constructed this way for its child audience so they could comprehend it. But now, children have grown up and so has this story. This story now features Aurora, still on the good side, but she isn’t the main character as much. We now have someone who we always figured was evil, taking the spotlight, and changing the story. Maleficent alters the classic tale because we never received her side of the story. No one wanted to know about the wicked villain who placed a curse on the innocent Aurora. We just generally assumed she was evil. Now in the modern times, everyone wants to know about the reckless monster, and the cause of their actions.

Maleficent’s motives are shrouded in mystery, just like her character which is what also makes the redone Once Upon a Dream song wonderful. The song is sung with a beautiful unknown that captures our hearts and lures us in because it’s something we’re all familiar with. It’s manipulated so not only we are reminded of a childhood tune turned hauntingly enchanting, but it will give a whole new generation a new ideal of Once Upon a Dream.

What do you think of the redone Once Upon a Dream tune? Are you excited for the upcoming Maleficent movie? Feel free to leave your comments below and as always, feedback and followers are welcomed.

Lights, Camera, 2014

Greetings everyone and as promised, here is Monday’s entry of The Magical Mystery Blog.

Despite Hollywood’s descent into unoriginal movie ideas, 2014 looks like an exciting year for movies and film ideas. While this seems like another year filled of retold fantasy stories, a few interesting ideas have managed to slip through the cracks. Here are just some glimpses into movies debuting this year and have attracted tons of attention.

-Maleficent
A few days ago the second trailer for Maleficent was released. This movie focuses on the villain of the iconic Sleeping Beauty story and tells the back story of the horned sorceress. In this teaser we see that at some point, Aurora and Maleficent meet and engage in multiple conversations. In one specific meeting, Maleficent informs the young beauty of an evil that not even she cannot protect her from. Notice the word in that sentence is ‘protect’ – thus giving a new idea to the audience that maybe Maleficent isn't vile, but rather another person defending Aurora much like her father and the fairies.

Throughout the trailer we see that the animated classic is the basis of Maleficent’s history. We see that the castle is kept nearly to the same design as are most of the characters. However, people are already bashing Elle Fanning for being Aurora mostly due to her voice and appearance. I believe that Elle is a fantastic choice because in the original story of Sleeping Beauty, she was fifteen to sixteen. Elle so happens to fit the same age as Aurora and embodies the youthful nature of the princess. This movie is set to hit theaters on May 30th.

-The Lego Movie
The Lego Movie is just as what the title reads: an entire movie dealing with Legos. Not only are the Legos generic little yellow men and women, but in this film there’s Lego Batman, Abraham Lincoln, and even God (voiced by Morgan Freeman of course). The plot focuses on one average Lego man who stumbles onto something greater and discovers that he plays a rather large part of the Lego world. Although this movie is intended for children, chances are adults and geeks will flock to the theaters on February 7th to see their favorite childhood pastime come to life.

-Guardians of the Galaxy
This movie has received the most hype from Marvel fanatics everywhere. It has also attracted some Whovians due to the fact that Karen Gillan (Amy Pond) will star in this as well. The plot centers around Peter Quill, a man who happens to find himself caught in the war filled cosmos of the Marvelverse.   By his side are the Guardians of the Galaxy including a genetically engineered raccoon, a tree alien of royal descent, a revived human turned killing machine, and a powerful assassin.  Together they take on Nebula, Ronan the Accuser, and the ultimate villain, Thanos. Thanos, for you Marvel lovers, appeared at the end of the first Avengers movie. It’s rumored that the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy may or may not fuse at some point.  If they did, then it would be one colossal movie that would be out of this world. Guardians of the Galaxy will premiere on August 1st.

-Dumb and Dumber To
Dumb and Dumber was a classic, laugh until your sides hurt comedy featuring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels.  In this sequel, they reunite twenty years later to find one of their children. While the plot sounds all right, the idea of them having families and children raises so many questions. Who would ever fall for them, how was their family life, did they change to fit the role of a father? So many questions, so many days to go until it hits theaters on November 14th.

What movie are you looking forward to? Feel free to comment and as always, feedback and followers are welcomed.

Gimmie Some Lovin

Good evening everyone and welcome to The Magical Mystery Blog.

The Blues Brothers is by far my most coveted, eighties flick. It starts off in Chicago with Elwood Blues reuniting with his on parole brother, Jake Blues. From there, the two are on a mission from God to save the orphanage where they grew up at.

I fell in love with this movie during my high school years because I was unfazed with the present and what it had to offer. Plus, I wasn't the typical teenager. I’ll admit I was different. I got along with the teachers more so than I did other students, I liked things from the past (antiques, movies, music, actors, etc.), and I found the past more interesting than the present.

This film won my heart over in an instant, causing me to complete my first successful cosplay as Elwood Blues, to explore the eighties, and to discover something about myself. Below are the reasons why I love The Blues Brothers.

5. Elwood Blues

michaelgraham.com

LOOK AT THIS MAN. LOOK AT HIM. Tall, dark, handsome, and slender as a tooth pick. Every girl’s crazy bout a sharp dressed man and Elwood is no exception. He’s quiet, soft spoken yet very clever and resourceful. His driving skills are insane and gifted by the good grace of God, his voice is as deep as the ocean floor and gorgeous, and he’s fantastic.

4. The Music

This movie is basically a musical and with it, there are many melodic acts. These acts feature extremely famous musicians such as Ray Charles, Cab Calloway (the inspiration for Oogie Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas), James Brown, and even the Queen of Soul herself, Aretha Franklin. This musical is just busting with great songs, choreography, and celebrities.

3. The Stories

Not only is the plot of this movie excellent but the behind the scenes stories are just as great. One of the more famous stories is that John Belushi (Jake Blues) disappeared from the set. No one knew where he was and so they drove around the area looking for him. Dan Aykroyd (Elwood Blues) went to every house in the neighborhood and asked if anyone had seen John. Finally, he reached one house and the residents said that John was at their residence. The owners led Dan inside to which he found John asleep on their couch. Other stories include them losing their sunglasses and fedoras often and Cab Calloway refusing to cooperate with the cast.

2. The Chemistry

Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi were the heart and soul of this movie. Their acting throughout this movie was phenomenal, as though they were brothers in real life. What’s even greater about these actors is that they not only gelled well on set, but off set as well. They were the best of friends in real life, always helping each other out, and even writing a biography for their characters of this movie. The biography wasn't a simple paragraph either. It was a full fledged book on every single thing Jake and Elwood did in their lives, like visiting multiple brothels, growing up in the orphanage, and other events. Dan and John’s experiences and bonds helped them to create great personas not only in the movie, but in reality as well.

1. What it Taught Me

The Blues Brothers taught me something that has helped me to this day. It’s a lesson that at some point everyone, if not most people, learn in their lives and it’s that it’s okay to be different. It’s okay to not go out every Friday and party because you’re not a social butterfly. It’s all right if you want to try new things and embrace them wholeheartedly. It’s perfectly fine if you want to be someone else for a while in an attempt to understand yourself better.

If you've never seen this movie, I seriously recommend watching it. It’s a classic movie full of laughter, great acting, and wonderful music.

For those who have seen this movie, what did you enjoy the most about it? Feel free to comment and as always, feedback and followers are welcomed.

Come What May

If anyone has seen the musical movie, Moulin Rouge, you are probably aware of the main villain, the Duke. The Duke is the villain of the movie musical who wants Satine like a cat wants cat nip.

tumblr.com
Mreow.
For those of you who don’t know what Moulin Rouge is, it’s a musical with the overall theme of freedom, beauty, truth, and love. It’s set in the Bohemian artistic period of France and is centered on Christian, a young penniless writer just starting out in the world. He stumbles into a case of mistaken identity at the Moulin Rouge burlesque bar, where he is thought to be the Duke. Satine, the wannabe actress confuses Christian for the Duke, and the two begin a love affair. Their relationship is met with the challenges of the relentless Duke and the obstacles of life.

However, from the many times that I have viewed this film I have reason to believe that the Duke is a sufferer of molestation. He may have been a child when this occurred and is just experiencing the results as an adult. I say this because he doesn’t appear to be showing the symptoms as though it recently happened. Rather, it appears he’s suffering the effects as though it took place during his childhood. Below are my three reasons why I believe this claim.

          1)      He Has Possible Trauma– when he makes the deal with Ziddler about turning the Moulin Rouge into a theater, you notice he has his bowler hat is in his lap. This is a typical custom to remove a hat during an important event and place it in the lap or on the coat rack. At one point, we see him furiously fumbling with his hat claiming that he doesn't like “people touching his things.”  The camera focuses on his lap while he does this. The scene is below here from Nostalgia Critic's review of Moulin Rouge.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLqXH95rye4 - Youtube

I feel like this scene could be a personal, traumatic flashback he’s experiencing that the audience does not witness. How he delivers the line is in pure anger as well as his actions. However, we are constantly focused on his lap with the hat covering his groin. His things could refer to his genitalia if he was ever sexually molested. Even Ziddler has a reaction of pure horror at the Duke’s outburst.

           2)      He Confuses Emotional Needs With Sex – in Moulin Rouge ‘love’ is something understood by artists and not greedy businessmen, like the Duke. However, the Duke wants Satine for the reason of lust. He is immediately aroused by her dance moves and skimpy outfits. As a possible victim of molestation, the Duke would have a specific need for sex as a way of nurturing his pain. Sex is the only way that it can be cured for.

The things he was relating to in the previous number also relates to Satine because it’s who he wants in the Moulin Rouge. She is a prostitute, a woman whose job is to give physical pleasure to clients. He considers her as nothing more than a sexual object.  His lust comes to a peak when he attempts to rape her in the Gothic Tower. He no longer treats his relationship with Satine as something civil but as a horse that needs to be broken. The Duke performs threatening sexual acts towards her like ripping off her corset and throwing her onto the bed like a piece of luggage.

          3)      He Has Trust Issues  – in order to ensure that his deal goes the way he wants to, he holds onto the deed of the Moulin Rouge. When he discovers Satine is with Christian, he attempts to rape her. When he doesn't get his ending he tries to kill Christian and even orders Christian to be murdered by Warner, his body guard. These specific situations show the extremity of how far the Duke will go when not trusting others. Yet when we see him rehearsing the plays and popping in on Satine and Christian (who are constantly making out), he immediately trusts them without a thought.

Molestation often leads to an extreme range of trust from no trust at all to complete and total trust.

We All Have Scissorhands

Thank God it’s Friday because here’s a new entry of The Magical Mystery Blog.

I’m sure most of you are familiar with the famous movie director, Tim Burton. Mr. Burton has created classic hits like Mars Attacks, Vincent, and Corpse Bride. He has even aided in the production of other movies like James and the Giant Peach and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Growing up, I wasn’t too fond of the strange director and producer until I hit my teenage years Or as everyone remembers these years as, the time when puberty struck and life was a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world.

Needless to say, I was in that same boat of confusion. At the age of thirteen I finally watched The Nightmare Before Christmas and was completely fascinated by this director’s work. I loved his work so much I started to watch other movies created by him, including Edward Scissorhands.

moviegoods.com

Edward Scissorhands is the story of an Avon saleswoman (Peg Boggs) discovering a leftover, unfinished invention in a deceased inventor’s palace. The invention is none other than Johnny Depp with scissors for hands. Intrigued and concerned by this man made man, Mrs. Boggs invites Edward to stay with her in her cheery little neighborhood.

The rest is a cause and effect story of what happens when you try to introduce something different and new to a town that likes an unchanging routine. How it not only effects the people in that specific location but the lengths they go to, to use this new person to their means. Only then do they reject him for the “wrongs” he has committed, when it was their doing from the start. In the end, they just shrug it off as if nothing ever happened, and return to their daily ritual.

This movie is a treat for anyone who wants to step inside the world of Tim Burton’s early years. As for myself, I've watched this film at every chance I could get because it’s my favorite Burton flick. However, as the years rolled on I began to realize a few things about it.

              1)      It’s easily relate-able to everyone - when I originally viewed this movie, I could easily understand it because I was an outcast much like Edward Scissorhands. I had just transferred from Catholic to public school at that time and despite trying to put my best foot forward, it failed in the end.

At first I didn't realize it, but as I grew older I began to see that everyone could relate to this movie. You may find that notion insane because when people think ‘Tim Burton movies’ they immediately imagine the gothic and/or emo kids who blast Slayer and wear spikes on every single article of clothing they own.

With Edward Scissorhands I find that people can relate to this film because at some point in our lives, everyone is Edward Scissorhands. You’re the new kid changing (or starting) school and know no one, you’re the new person in the office and don’t know how things are. You're strange to the new town, school, or workplace because you're new and different. Some kindhearted people will take you in, show you around, and make sure you're all right. However, there are those out there who will use you to their benefit. It happens to everyone in life, just as it did in Edward Scissorhands.

Even Burton himself has said that he was Edward Scissorhands. In fact, he had created Edward long before the movie was even made.

             2)      The inspiration – in the time that Mr.Burton made this film, he was an unknown producer and director who was still making a mark in the world. He wanted to show Hollywood a new lease on life through his style, stories, and ideas. As a teenager he often drew various things and Edward was one of themEdward was drawn as a representation of himself growing up and even the film was a symbolization of Burton's time growing up. This movie was an outward expression of Burton’s means of finding himself in the world as the outcast he was.

              3)      The meaning of the end – SPOILER ALERT.

THE FOLLOWING IS A MASSIVE

SPOILER TO EDWARD

SCISSORHANDS
. IF YOU HAVE NOT

SEEN IT YET, PLEASE DO NOT READ

ON.

When I viewed this movie, I honestly did not expect to bawl at the end. But I understood why I cried and called Kim Boggs (Winona Ryder’s character) a bitch.

flicker.com
Get your hands off my man, woman!
It was because she tarnished my hopes for a happy ending for this movie by leaving Edward  alone in the inventor's palace. I was rooting for the underdog in this film so that their romance could blossom and face the challenges of having a partner with scissorhands. It would be something different as opposed to your standard boyfriend/girlfriend relationships.

I was hoping for them to be together forever because it would bridge the gap between the strange and the normal. I believed that if that chasm could never be filled in life, then at least let me have it from a movie I enjoy. This was not the case but then again, I’m rather glad Burton did not give his audience a joyful reprise.

What he gave the audience was life. There will always be the outcasts in life that no one wants to bond with because they interrupt the daily routine. But in the world there are those like Kim, Peg, and the rest of their family who embrace those who are different from them. When Kim sacrificed her future with Edward, she broke the possible idea of bridging the gap between the different and the routine. She could have stayed with Edward and explained what had happened to the crowd but they would have assumed that Edward started it and would have still considered him a villain. Kim knew he was never an enemy to the neighborhood although they believed otherwise.

Well that about wraps up this week's blog entry. For my readers, I ask you a question: what did you think about the ending to Edward Scissorhands? Would you have preferred
a happy ending, why? Or did you like it the way it was and why?
