Volcanion Erupts Into ORAS/XY

Good evening everyone and welcome to The Magical Mystery Blog.

Every month of this year Nintendo has been releasing a legendary Pokemon to celebrate their 20th anniversary of the franchise.

For October, Keldeo is available to download from the Nintendo Network via Mystery Gift to Pokemon XY or ORAS. With Keldeo only being available for three more days, we have a new legendary to collect.

Until 10/31/16, Volcanion will be distributed via code from Gamestop. A level 70 Volcanion can be downloaded onto Pokemon XY or ORAS and will unlock new dialogue throughout regions in the game. It will also come with the item Assault Vest that increases Special Defense, but prevents use of status moves. Volcanion will also have the ability Water Absorb as well as the moves Steam Eruption, Hydro Pump, Overheat, and Explosion. These moves coincide with its unique typing and will demonstrate its strength on the battlefield.

Thank you for reading tonight’s entry. If you enjoyed it, feel free to share, subscribe, comment, and critique.

So tell me, what do you think of Volcanion’s unique typing?

Holy Hawluchas, More Pokemon News!

Good evening everyone and welcome to The Magical Mystery Blog.

Holy Hawluchas, do we have some Pokémon Sun and Moon news!

For starters, our legendarys are now named. For Pokémon Sun, we have Solgaleo who is a Psychic/Steel typing with the ability Full Metal Steel that negates all Pokémon abilities that may affect its stats. In the trailer, we see that a Salamance’s Intimidate has no effect on this full metal lion. Solgaleo’s most powerful move is Sunsteel Strike which transforms it into a flaming, fiery ball and lunges at its opponent.

For Pokémon Moon, we have Lunala the Psychic/Ghost Pokémon and has the Shadow Shield ability. Shadow Shield will cause Lunala to take less damage from an attack if its HP is full before the attack lands. Lunala’s strongest move is Moongeist Beam which causes the Pokemon to turn into a moon like figure and attack their enemies with a powerful ray.

I’m honestly curious as to what the symbols are that appear on Solgaleo and Lunala heads’ when they attack. I originally thought it was a symbol for ‘Psychic’, but if that’s the case then why are they so different?

My belief regarding Pokémon Sun and Moon’s land was correct wherein I wondered if there would be more islands and if we’d have to travel to them by surfing or boat. In the video, we see four islands with distinct layouts and if you look closely, you can see a few boats near them. In the original trailer, we only saw one island (the second from the left) which now makes me wonder if that will be the island where our adventure begins. I also wonder what the building in the center of the map is at :52; I’m thinking it’s a laboratory, the villains’ headquarters, an island solely reserved for battling, or the Pokémon League.

We also have confirmed character names and roles. Our professor is the young man who greets us on the island from the first trailer. His name is Kukui after a Hawaiian tree and wears glasses, but take note of his dialogue: he says Alola is made up of several islands which could explain why there’s nothing but rare Pokémon. Yes, we will be obtaining new Pokémon in this generation, but it also makes me wonder if the portals will return from ORAS. Those portals were on special islands and contained rare Pokémon
such as Giratina, Suicune, Entei, and many others.

Then there’s Lillie, Kukui’s mysterious assistant who I have a strong feeling will be heavily involved with the plot. After all she does have the word ‘mysterious’ in her character title, which makes me wonder what her role will be other than assistant. She seems to dress differently too; she seems like she came from Lumiose City or Laverre City as opposed to being a Alolan native. She also dislikes Pokemon battles, but loves a good book.

Lastly, there’s Hau, the dark skinned boy we saw from the original trailer who will be our friend and possible rival. He seems to embody the carefree nature that the islands and its natives possess.

At 1:01, we see a bracelet on our trainers that we can choose from. This could probably mean the return of Mega Evolution and the hopeful promise that we’ll get more Mega Evolutions. I’m crossing my fingers for a Mega Evolution Dunsparce and/or a Mega Evolution Shuckle.

The Pokedex is also rather unique in this game. This Pokedex allows you have to have a Skype like conversation with Kukui and can be possessed by a Rotom. Rotom will be obtaining a new form and converse with you through the Pokedex. It’s a nifty little idea and it actually made me wonder why Gamefreak didn’t incorporate it before. After all, Rotom is a Pokémon capable of possessing electronics. Also, does this mean that we’ll automatically have a 6th slot filled in our Pokémon party due to Rotom’s appearance?

Lastly, there will be a special QR Code function for this game wherein players can register Pokémon from Alola in their Pokedex. If players haven’t caught the Alolan Pokémon yet, they can still scan the code and search for it in its habitat. I hope Nintendo explains this in the future or at least at their June 14th discussion of Pokémon Sun and Moon because I’m curious as to how it will play into the game.

Pokemon Sun and Moon Thoughts

Good evening everyone and welcome to The Magical Mystery Blog.

Finally, we get some news regarding Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon.

A week ago, we were shown the starter Pokemon for Pokemon Sun and Moon: Rowlet (Grass/Flying), Litten (Fire), and Popplio (Water). Along with these starters, we were also given a glimpse of the legendarys – one which is a celestial lion for Sun and another which is a cosmic kite like being for Moon. While we still don’t know their names, we do know that our adventure will take place in a Hawaiian region called Alola which appears to be a play on the Hawaiian phrase ‘Aloha’.

With these new concepts and trailers, here are my thoughts about them:

-This unreleased game is making me do something I have never done in my entire history of playing Pokemon. It’s something as a child I never thought I’d do. It’s something that almost seems uncharacteristic of me and yet, I greatly want to do this.
It’s choosing a grass starter. Rowlet is too adorable for my own good and I’ve already thought of some names for him/her. It comes with the new move Leafage which is a barrage of leafy quills fired at the opponent.

-Litten is basically this game’s fire filled Grumpy Cat and I adore it. He/she looks like they have the attitude of ‘screw it all, everything needs to burn’. Its body is covered in certain oils and uses fiery hairballs for attacking.

-Popplio has received a mixture of love and hatred from the Internet. I’m not too fond of it myself, but my opinion can be changed. I understand why they crafted Popplio to look the way it does and while it is cute, it’s just not my jar of jam. Besides, the starters’ evolutions are what finalize my decision when picking one.

-We have also received a glimpse of an unannounced Pokemon. With a big bushy tail and little legs, it could be another dog like Pokemon like Lillipup.

-For our legendarys we have a celestial lion and a moon bat kite. Both are interesting in their own right and appear at similar shrines. The cosmic lion appears during the day time, while the moon bat kite appears during the night – this makes sense given that they represent the day and night.

-We now know what Alola looks like and it encompasses the Hawaiian landscape. There is a giant volcano, lush greens, sandy beaches, and a city district. Given that Alola is a tropical oasis, I can imagine that we can dive again. I also wonder if there will be any underwater volcanoes or if there will be a nod to the Ring of Fire that surrounds Hawaii. Since that would be a fire/water area, perhaps this could be a unique way to introduce Volcanion despite his original hacked appearance in XY. I wonder if we have to use waterfall to access some parts of the island as noted by the large waterfall in the distance. Or, perhaps, it could lead to a secret area. Actually, since Alola is one giant island, can we take a boat out to other possible islands?

-There are now four options to choose from for our trainer. Our rival is unclear whether it will be the opposite gender trainer like in XY or the dark skinned boy. The dark skinned boy could be like XY wherein the trainer had friends that followed them. The professor in this one looks more laid back, tying in with Alola’s society and theme. The characters seemed to generally be carefree and relaxed from their appearance to their movements.

-Here’s hoping we get to change our clothes again. If you noticed in the trailer, at one point the male trainer’s stripes are blue. Then later on, they’re black. Also, why does the girl have a rubber glove on her head?

Legendary Pokemon Distributions

Good evening everyone and welcome to The Magical Mystery Blog.

Nintendo is incredibly distribution happy this year. Not only are they releasing a legendary Pokemon each month to celebrate the 20thAnniversary of Pokemon, but they are distributing other Pokemon alongside them.

For starters, this month gamers can receive Darkrai from May 1st – May 24th with a  code from Gamestop. At level 100, this powerhouse of a Pokemon boasts Dark Void, Ominous Wind, Feint Attack, Nightmare, and the special ability Bad Dreams. Bad Dreams allows a sleeping Pokemon to be damaged every turn.

Following Darkrai’s arrival, we also have Shiny Yveltal, Shiny Xerneas, and Zygarde. These Pokemon will be distributed by Mystery Gift on Pokemon X/Y and Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire.

Zygarde will be distributed from April 30th – May 8th. Zygarde was an unexpected distribution; hence the late announcement for him. Shiny Xerneas will be released from May 11th- 17th and Shiny Yveltal will be issued from May 20th – 26th.

Also, from March 4th - October 31st, 2016 players who have the Pokemon Bank will be able to receive Regirock, Regice, and Registeel.  Gamers simply access their Pokemon Bank and receive the trio using the Pokemon Link found in Pokemon X/Y and Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire.

Lastly, from May 2016 and onward, members of the “Pokemon Trainer Club Newsletter” can receive Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos. The Pokemon Company has urged players to register for the newsletter by April 22nd, 2016 to receive these legendarys. The newsletter will distribute codes that gamers can use to retrieve these Pokemon for Pokemon X/Y and Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire.

The Year of Pokemon

Good evening everyone and welcome to The Magical Mystery Blog.

2016 is the 20th anniversary of Pokemon which means it’s time for me to remember just how old I am while playing a game I’ve loved since my childhood. With Pokemon Go and Pokken Tournament being released this year, Nintendo has some tricks up its sleeves for this wondrous anniversary.

For starters, Chandelure and Braixen have been announced for Pokken Tournament. These two are a few more fire/psychic types added to the game. Sylveon, Magikarp, Pachirisu, and Croagunk have also been announced as support Pokemon. However, Chandelure is a Pokemon that no one expected. While there’s no footage of the brawling beast yet, its trailer will be premiering on January 31st, 2016.

In regard to battles of Pokken Tournament, there will be three modes: Single mode (player vs CPU with three difficulty settings), Local battle (player vs player, with one on the Gamepad and the other using a standard controller), and Online battle. Online battle has two subcategories: Friendly Matches (which can be played with anyone (friends or strangers) for fun) and Ranked Matches (which can be played with anyone, but you receive points by how well you fight). Players can also use a LAN cable to connect two Wii Us to fight.

Also throughout the entire year we will be able to receive legendary Pokemon to download for Pokemon ORAS and Pokemon XY. They will be downloadable either through the Nintendo Zone or a serial code distributed at Gamestops. The download schedule begins and runs as such:

Pokemon Go: Gotta Go Global

Good evening everyone and welcome to The Magical Mystery Blog.

Pokemon Go has people everywhere more excited than an Electabuzz using Thunder Punch. Last night we received some incredible news about this up and coming game for our phones.
Pokemon Go will feature Pokemon Gyms that you can use to level up your Pokemon. Players are encouraged to take advantage of gyms whenever they encounter one because they will be a scarce commodity.  Gamers can also join with other teams to fight in the style of double or triple battles.

The Pokemon will be obtainable no sooner you leave your house. Within five minutes from your home you will encounter a Pokemon – it may not be a legendary, but it will be a Pokemon nonetheless. There will be a population of Pokemon living near every player. Pokemon will also be available in specific areas based on their typing. For example, Staryu may be found at a beach, Weedles may be found in a forest, and Pidoves may be found on statues. Legendary Pokemon will be much more difficult to find based on their status in the Pokemon world and location in our world. To catch em all, players are encouraged to trade with friends or travel extensively (though the prior option would be easier).

The Pokemon Go Plus (the watch like device that will be worn for this venture) will vibrate when a Pokemon is nearby. After entering a certain button sequence, the Pokemon will be captured and can later be viewed on the Pokemon Go app.

Pokemon Go will be played everywhere from the Alpines to Zimbabwe and everywhere in between. This venture will literally unite the world in Pokemon, friendships, combat, and a lifetime of memories to come. To be honest, I never thought I’d see anything like this in my life, but I am more than excited to embrace this new world of Pokemon.

So tell me, what gym leader would you like to fight?
